Smart cameras fail in two ways: they miss the event, or they leak the event. We rank for picture, detection, and whether you can store video without mailing it to a startup that might sell the company next year.
4K is only useful if bitrate and night mode keep up. A 1080p camera with a good sensor still beats a 4K camera that paints night into oatmeal.

Questions people actually ask
What is the best indoor security camera?
Eufy and Tapo lead for local storage. Nest Cam if you already pay Google Home Premium and want the least fiddly app.
Do I need 4K?
For faces at a driveway, 2K–4K helps. For a baby's room, 2K with good low light is enough. Do not pay for 4K if the stream is compressed to mush.
Local storage or cloud?
Local first (microSD, HomeBase, NVR). Cloud as a backup if you want off-site after a burglary that steals the recorder.
Are cheap cameras safe?
Assume any camera can be a microphone in your kitchen. Change default passwords, segment IoT on your router, and prefer brands that publish a security contact.
