A laptop under 1.3kg that is not a MacBook
The Air is the default for a reason. If you cannot live in macOS, these are the Windows machines that still disappear in a bag.
People type 'light Windows laptop' because they already decided against Apple, or IT did. The ranking still puts M5 Air at #1. This note is the fork: under 1.3kg, not a MacBook, still a four-year machine.
Gaming bricks are out. Framework 16 is out. The Blade is a motorcycle. What is left is XPS, ThinkPad X1, and the Snapdragon Surface if your software is in the happy path.
The weight you actually feel
1.3kg is a bag test, not a spec-sheet religion. Chargers count. XPS 14 and current X1 Carbon sit in the class the Air occupies. A 16-inch 'thin' gaming laptop does not, no matter what the lid weighs at CES.
Battery is the other half of light. A 1.1kg machine that dies at 3pm is heavy. Snapdragon Surface SKUs finally compete with Mac on hours — if your VPN, plugins, and one weird Adobe filter survive ARM translation. Check that list before you buy the object.
X1 Carbon vs XPS vs Surface
ThinkPad X1 Carbon is the pick if you type for a living. Keyboard, TrackPoint, adult BIOS. It looks grey on purpose. SKU hell is the tax — configure it yourself or you will get the wrong panel.
Dell XPS 14 is the Windows Air: the object people mean when they say 'pretty Windows'. Keyboard is good. Repair is not the point. Thermals get honest when you push a thin chassis.
Surface Laptop on Snapdragon is the battery bet. Copilot+ machines got real. If Office, browsers, and light Adobe are the job, it is a lovely brick. Niche drivers and some games are still the remaining tax.
What we will not pretend is light
Framework 13 is the machine you own in 2031. It is not a 1.3kg object. Buy it for screws and a decade, not for the weigh-in.
Razer Blade and 16-inch creator tanks fail this note on physics. If you game, buy a console plus a cheap Air, or accept the brick. That argument lives on the full laptop ranking.

Is there a Windows laptop as light as the 13-inch Air?
X1 Carbon and the thin XPS/Surface class get into the same bag. They will not match Apple's silence-and-trackpad combo. That is the trade you already accepted.
16GB still enough in 2026?
16GB is the floor for a keeper. 32GB if you run VMs, big IDEs, or local models. Do not buy 8GB and call it an ultraportable.
